Leer menosIn the design of many surveys or research using sampling, one of the first items to choose is the type of sampling. By sampling type or plan we understand the selection and estimation procedure chosen. In this paper, an example of POSDEM software application in hypothetical teachers' assessment survey is presented. This is an extract from a longer article published in 'Revista Electrónica de Metodología Aplicada' (Applied electronic methodology magazine) in Internet. The authors of this article have designed POSDEM software to optimise the selection of alternative sampling plans. The objective has been to offer a software that allows the design of sampling plans appropriate for each type of research, including an expert knowledge on sampling, so that the researcher those not necessarily need to have that kind of knowledge. POSDEM answers such questions like: Which is the best sampling plan for a particular population frame? What about the sampling error for a particular confidence interval? Which units must be studied? The application has a help system available in hypertext format that can be used as a sampling guide. An illustration has been prepared with the objective of showing the possibilities of this software. The programme is available for use in other research projects at the following Internet page:http://www.geocities.com/ResearchTriangle/Facility/ 1075/default.htm.#B.
